Stage Direction

As a director, Noah has a deep interest in contemporary works, speculative fiction and works that utilize the full possibilities of digital spaces.

His production of Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins revitalized Strawdog Theatre's annual holiday classic with intricate shadow puppet work and expanded streaming offerings. The Chicago Reader said that "...the cast under the direction of Noah Elman really commits to bringing out the beauty in this tale."

His production of The Pillowman sought to immerse the audience by having them travel through multiple immersive rooms over the course of the three acts. Audiences raved about the production and the full run was sold out.

His production of Two Gentlemen of Verona with Shakespeare on the Lake brought together a cast of college-age performers, professors, and community members in a production that offered "lots of laughs". He also collaborated with local Buffalo artists to create the soundtrack for the modern-dress production.

origin/end, his adaptation of Roald Dahl's short story, Genesis and Catastrophe, shocked audiences with a look at the horrors of hindsight. It was an audience favorite in the short play festival.

Noah has had the opportunity to assistant direct with directors such as Michael Barakiva, former artistic director of the Hangar Theatre and current Artistic Director of The Upstart Creatures; Sam Buggeln, current Artistic Director of The Cherry Arts; and Ted Sharon, current Artistic Director of Shakespeare on the Lake and founder of Venture Productions. Productions that Noah has worked on have been called "beautifully rendered", "technically impressive and dramatically effective", and a "gothic feast".
